TC Energy – Deep Valley North Reclamation and Final Clean-up

Subcontracted to M&M Resources Ltd.

This project involved comprehensive environmental monitoring, inspection, and management of reclamation and cleanup activities for a 43-kilometer stretch of pipeline right-of-way (ROW) in the Deep Valley, Alberta area. A Qualified Environmental Professional (QEP) led the project, ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards and environmental management plans for the Deep Valley North project. This work was vital for restoring the pipeline area to its natural state and minimizing environmental impact.

Scope of Work and Key Activities

Daily Environmental Sweeps:
Each day, environmental sweeps were conducted along the reclamation areas to identify any wildlife presence and detect potential environmental issues. These sweeps were crucial for ensuring minimal disruption to local ecosystems and identifying areas that required immediate intervention.

Reclamation Coordination: The QEP managed the reclamation efforts, including soil replacement, re-seeding of native vegetation, and erosion control measures. This coordination was essential for promoting vegetation regrowth, stabilizing the soil, and restoring natural habitats in the disturbed areas.

Crew Orientation and Oversight: All crew members were thoroughly oriented on the project’s Environmental Protection Plan (EPP) and Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) before starting work. Daily oversight ensured that all reclamation and cleanup activities adhered strictly to the environmental standards and procedures outlined.

Compliance with EPP and CEMP: The QEP closely monitored each phase of the project, from initial reclamation to final cleanup, to guarantee adherence to the Environmental Protection Plan and Construction Environmental Management Plan. This included tracking the restoration of the ROW and implementing corrective actions when necessary.

Project Highlights:

Biodiversity Protection:
By conducting daily wildlife sweeps and monitoring reclamation activities, the project minimized environmental disturbance, safeguarding the local flora and fauna during reclamation.

Restoration of Natural Ecosystems: Through strategic reclamation activities, the project promoted the recovery of the natural landscape, ensuring the ROW would blend seamlessly into the surrounding environment.

High Standards of Environmental Compliance: The QEP’s role in supervising daily work and maintaining strict adherence to the EPP and CEMP demonstrates a commitment to upholding regulatory and environmental best practices.

This project reflects a strong dedication to responsible environmental stewardship, ensuring that pipeline operations have minimal long-term effects on the Deep Valley ecosystem.
